Tickets are officially on sale for the Diaspora Dance Party and here is a where you’ll discover what makes this event so special!
What happens in the community stays in the community. It was an ordinary summer evening just before fall, we were all hanging out having great conversation, speaking words of wisdom, affirming and loving on one another as we often do. Everyone was feeling refreshed and energized after eating a potluck dinner at the Garden of Eat’n café and Our Journey/OD Fitness, a special place in the Springfield where this lifestyle is ignited. Co-founder Azariyah brought the drums and music and I lead in dance outside on the street corner outside, and we knew then the spirit of the Diaspora Dance Party was born.
The Diaspora Dance Party came about as a way of gathering the tribe and recalling practices many of our African ancestors held to sustain the quality of their life! Dancing, drumming, singing, affirmations and eating eclectic foods brings joy and healing we can all relate to!
The vision of the #WesternMADiasporaDanceParty is to co-create #culturallyrelevanthealing spaces for people to let it out and let it go and movement and music allows us to do that. This night we honor our ancestors, and continue the work of self-realization liberation and self-determination.
It’s no question that people of color particularly African Americans have suffered and need time & spaces of self-expression. Institutionalized oppression, racism, classism and brutality has distracted us from the beautiful truth of who we are. The Diaspora Dance Party highlights our value, individuality, supernatural creativity and connection
You may have gone to many party but this is an experience. This is a grand gathering that invites residents, colleges and greater Springfield community! Come ready to dance, socialize, vibe, listen great music grab a bite to eat or invest in our vendors! Buy Tickets

Hello Beautiful Beings! Today I’ve decided to chat about the 8 benefits of Meditation brought to me in the 8th Month of the year. For those of you who follow-me, you probably know that at the beginning of every month I give myself a challenge.Well, for August 2018 it was 31 days of Meditation. First I’ll tell you what prompted me to this challenge, then I’ll shed light on what meditation is.
I spend a lot of time in reflection, I look to my discernment and intuition to navigate me through life. Hence why I started to realize that my personal, professional and social life was shifting. This shift shook me up and caused me to feel agitated, fidgety and yelling out every now and then, I need a change! I even starting contemplating getting a tattoo, locking my hair or moving! I realize this shift, was the changing of seadons in my life. I’m going into a shedding season that requires letting go and embracing the new. Even as I write this letter on the 1st night of September, the crickets chirping and cooler night’s temperature confirm it. In all, I needed to ground myself in the truth essence of who I am and what’s to come. I needed clarity and no confusion. I needed to have an “inner-standing” and deep revelation. Although I meditate often, I wanted seek the benefits of doing it on a daily basis.
What is Meditation?
Meditation is a mental practice. It requires your attention be turned away from distracting thoughts and focusing on the present. It can involve focusing on the breath, bodily sensations, a word or a message. Meditation is mental purification that make room for new and accurate understanding. As scripture tells us Romans 12:2 (NKJV) … do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Here are the benefits that meditation brought me.
1.Prayer time & Devotion: The #1 thing meditation brought was an increase in my prayer and study time. This happened naturally. I realize I was seeking answers that could only come from God and I decided to go deeper in verbal communication and reading. This provided sound understanding and the guidance I needed most.
2. Clarity: Meditation assists with mental clarity, no more double mindedness about decisions or the direction I needed to go in for my business. I was able to ponder through these areas. I became clear on the instructions and my confidence resurfaced.
3. Increased focus: I love how meditation increases your focus! It literally help me break through my writers block and work 4-8 hours consistently on projects I need to get done!
4. Listening: Meditation helps your listening skills. When you’re silent you hear so much more and you gain more information! Meditation reset my practice of being slow to speak and quick to listen.I started to listen to my emotional and character needed shedding.
This is soooooo needed for my relationships with myself and others in this new season to create deeper intimacy, harmony and growth!
5. Peace: I found my need in peace meditation. There’s nothing spending time in presence of God and igniting his spirit in you. Meditation is a spiritual discipline.
6. Power: Meditation helps birth your power. I started taking control of my thought patterns. I started to see the things I was obsessing over that I had no control over, this caused me to feel limited! Purging from these mental attitudes has given me more freedom.
7. Discipline: Meditation brings discipline. The first things you want to consider when your seeking growth is how you spend your time. Although I fell short in meditating everyday, challenging myself brought a conscious discipline in and around this commitment. It required consistency.
8. Patience: Meditation highlighted how I needed to be patient. Especially as it pertained to children. I noticed the more patience I gave to the kids in my life the more loving, gentleness and obedience they showed me.
It’s my 2-year anniversary since I left D.C and I thought it would be a perfect time to reflect. Truth is I only planned to be in Massachusetts for 2 years then off to my next career move. Yet, here I am humbled, healthy and happy. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, If you want to make God laugh… tell him your plans.
Listennnn!!! When I tell you I had no intentions of moving back to my isolated, lacking in young professional culture and spiritual life of a hometown; I had no intensions. Don’t get it confused I am proud to come from Springfield, it’s the city of first. My family, fondest memories, loved ones and 413 loyalty is here. But even as a visionary I struggled to see the light.
The R.Eal tea is that every well had dried up for me in DMV and I was wore out!
I was laid off of my full-time salary position in higher ed.
I outgrew my beloved church.
I wasn’t dancing as often as I had like to.
I was in an unhealthy relationship with a serpent. #callathingathing
My lease was soon ending and I couldn’t find a suitable roommate or new place to live.
And sadly, I was crying in public because I was emotionally overwhelmed. #embarrassing
Things weren’t adding up but one thing I knew for sure is that I was covered by sufficient GRACE.
I was living in a skyrise apartment with a balcony, scenic & poolside view and never missed a bill!
I was making the same salary collecting “unemployment” and working as a part-time server at Olive Garden literally 3 mins walking distance from my apartment.
I had the best roommate who was loving, compassionate and encouraging.
I soon realized I was being set up for a new chapter in life so I took advantage. I went quiet. Stillness, prayer and journaling became my morning routine. I worked out regularly and began to change my diet. I hired myself to do my LIFE WORK.
Here are four action steps to take when an unexpected career, job or relationship change occurs.
Purge– Go quiet and go alone.
Trust God’s Process – Consistency builds trust. Reflect on all the other times you’ve faced hardships and how you made it through. You must train your mind, words and behavior to reflect that of someone who has FAITH. This this too shall pass, it WILL get better, you will survive.
Patience – endure the process. Don’t be in a rush to move past your situation, wait for the next right move, give yourself enough time to get clarity and work through your woes so that you don’t enter a new situation with bitterness and brokenness.
Getcho Life! Make the best of your situation and use this new time to, read, write, learn and fight for your wholeness with a vengeance. Always remember you have an advisory and the powers of darkness are real. Get your LIGHT back.
Private struggles become public testimonies. I share this to encourage others and to lift as I climb.
